Dr. Piro’s Liposuction techniques

Fluid Injection, a technique in which a medicated solution is injected into fatty areas before the fat is removed, is commonly used by plastic surgeons today. The fluid — a mixture of intravenous salt solution, lidocaine (a local anesthetic) and epinephrine (a drug that contracts blood vessels) — helps the fat be removed more easily, reduces blood loss and provides anesthesia during and after surgery. Fluid injection also helps to reduce the amount of bruising after surgery.

Large volumes of fluid — sometimes as much as three times the amount of fat to be removed — are injected in the tumescent technique. Tumescent liposuction, typically performed on patients who need only a local anesthetic, usually takes significantly longer than traditional liposuction (sometimes as long as 4 to 5 hours). However, because the injected fluid contains an adequate amount of anesthetic, additional anesthesia may not be necessary.

The super-wet technique is similar to the tumescent technique, except that lesser amounts of fluid are used. Usually the amount of fluid injected is equal to the amount of fat to be removed. This technique often requires IV sedation or general anesthesia and typically takes one to two hours of surgery time.

Ultrasound-Assisted Lipoplasty (UAL). This technique requires the use of a special cannula that produces ultrasonic energy. As it passes through the areas of fat, the energy explodes the walls of the fat cells, liquefying the fat. The fat is then removed with the traditional liposuction technique.

Body Plastic Surgery by Dr. Jeffrey D. Hoefflin

Dr. Hoefflin’s body contouring procedures includes SmartLipo, a revolutionary new method of removing unwanted fat using a laser to liquefy or "melt" the fat away. It is intended for patients who do not have significant amounts of weight to lose, but rather desire sculpting to improve their contour or shape. Smartlipo™ has many advantages over traditional liposuction techniques. Using a carefully calibrated laser, the safe and highly effective method works to tighten or shrink the skin, creating a newly sculpted appearance. It is highly safe and effective, allowing the surgeon to typically remove more fat from a given area with less risk than traditional liposuction.

One of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures performed today, liposuction (also known as "lipoplasty" or "suction lipectomy") sculpts the body by removing unwanted fat from areas around the abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks and neck. Although not a substitute for dieting or exercise, liposuction is highly effective in removing stubborn areas of fat that do are unresponsive to typical weight-loss methods. The ideal candidates are patients who are physically healthy with firm, elastic skin, and with realistic goals and expectations.

There are individual and gender differences that must be considered when performing either liposuction or abdominoplasty in male patients. During your consultation with Dr. Hoefflin, he will discuss how each procedure can be tailored to meet your individual needs.

In cases where an individual has undergone dramatic weight loss, he or she may be left with loose, sagging skin on the upper arms. This is a common, though unfortunately unattractive side effect of significant weight loss. Brachioplasty, or arm lift, can help improve the appearance of the arms by a careful removal of excess skin beneath the arms and a tightening of the flabby tissue. Dr. Hoefflin has extensive experience helping patients after successful weight loss look and feel better in their skin.

Selecting a Cosmetic Surgeon in Carson City, NV

There are a number of reasons to consider plastic surgery, often (but not always) seated in a dissatisfaction with one body part or another. Breast augmentation with Plastic Surgery Carson City implants is a regular atop the list of most popular cosmetic procedures in the United States each year, but would obviously be of little use to a woman suffering from neck and back pain caused by excessively large breasts. What might not be so obvious is whether a woman considering implants would be better served by a breast lift. A face lift can take years off of your appearance, but what if a less extensive procedure such as blepharoplasty (an eyelid lift) could produce similar results? Liposuction might not be a viable weight loss method, but can be pretty useful in targeting uncooperative fat deposits.

Consulting with a qualified surgeon helps to find the answers to these and other questions like them. Carson City plastic surgeon Dr. Kent Gabriel is guided by a commitment to a "therapeutic alliance" with his patients throughout lengthy and informative pre-operative contacts to help you make the best decision for your self, as well as his surgical techniques and on-going post-operative care. If you've been thinking about liposuction, perhaps you should consider your liposuction in Carson City, NV.

Male Plastic Surgery - Breast Reduction in L.A., CA

Los Angeles breast surgery is not just about women seeking better proportions to their figure. While it's true that doctors like Los Angeles plastic surgeon, Dr. Steven Teitelbaum, do provide a full range of breast surgery to women, increasing, decreasing, lifting and more, there is also breast reduction for men to consider.

Defined by Mirriam-Webster Online as "excessive development of the breast in the male," gynecomastia is actually quite normal. Statistically, in fact, a man is much more likely to develop gynecomastia than not. Frequently it resolves itself, but when "man-boobs" don't go away on their own, they still need not be permanent. Just as Dr. Teitelbaum treats women who are dissatisfied with their breasts, gynecomastia is quite treatable. Men might not think of themselves as likely candidates for plastic surgery, but male plastic surgery isn't limited to moobs. While you see Dr. Teitelbaum as your gynecomastia surgeon, there may be additional procedures from which you might benefit.

Dr. Kearney's San Diego liposuction patients are surgically divested of those obstinate fat deposits, and abdominoplasty can be an effective way to flatten a belly that doesn't respond to diet and exercise.

Liposuction in Beverly Hills

The best candidates for liposuction are normal-weight people with firm, elastic skin who have pockets of excess fat in certain areas. You should be physically healthy, psychologically stable and realistic in your expectations. Your age is not a major consideration, but older patients may have diminished skin elasticity and may not achieve the same results as a younger patient with tighter skin.

Improvement will become apparent after about six weeks, when most of the swelling has subsided. After surgery, you may experience some fluid drainage from the incisions. To control swelling and to help your skin better fit its new contours, you may be fitted with a snug elastic garment to wear over the treated area for a few weeks. The Doctor may also prescribe antibiotics to prevent infection.

If your expectations are realistic, you will be very pleased with the results of your procedure. You may find that you are more comfortable in a wide variety of clothes and more at ease with your body. By eating a healthy diet and getting regular exercise, you will be able to maintain your new look for the rest of your life.

Body Contouring Surgery Like Abdominoplasty And Liposuction Are Performed To Create A Better Contour

A lipoplasty procedure is performed to remove localized areas of fat that surround the abdomen, upper arms, buttocks, hips, thighs, neck, calves, and knees. People who receive lipoplasty surgery are usually looking for an improvement in the contours of their figure - both in and out of their clothing. The plastic surgery procedure itself is performed with a thin metal tube called a cannula. The cannula is inserted beneath the patient's skin and it's used to vacuum the fat away from certain irregular contours around one's body.

Liposuction Can Fix What Dieting And Exercise Can't

Liposuction is one of the most commonly practiced plastic surgery procedures, and it can be very safe and effective if it is performed properly. Although, this is not a proper way to control your weight and is best done to those specific areas of your body that seem to not be affected by dieting or exercise.

There is a layer of fat between your skin and underneath your muscles that exists throughout your entire body. Unwanted deposits of fat are found in these places. Liposuction is a plastic surgery procedure that can get rid of these unwanted fatty deposits and reveal a younger and more appealing shape to your body.

Choosing a Plastic Surgeon - Beverly Hills, CA

Dad used to walk right past the express lane at the grocery store every time. He would always say things like, "Would you rather wait behind twelve people with one thing each or one person with twelve things?" Apparently, there was a lesson in there about not allowing a gimmick to cloud one's awareness of the big picture. A corollary might presumably be drawn that there are certain things which, if not delivered satisfactorily, will never be worth having been chosen based on price.

Dr. Francis Palmer, a Los Angeles plastic surgeon, makes a similar point regarding the selection of a plastic surgeon. Whether you seek breast augmentation, liposuction, a tummy tuck, a face lift, or whatever; it's simply better to get it right the first time. Don't hesitate to ask pointed questions, get a bead on a doctor's aesthetic sensibilities, or get a second opinion if you're not sure he is up to the job. Once you've chosen the right surgeon, one can do the job right, you can then focus on lesser details.

Liposuction Today

You may be a candidate for liposuction if you have excess subcutaneous fat, which is resistant to diet and exercise. Liposuction may also be desirable if you wish to change the contours of your body. Commonly involved areas are the anterior part of the neck (under the chin), upper arms and armpits, male chest/breasts, trunk, abdomen, waist, hips, thighs, inner knees, calves, and ankles. Most patients are near normal weight and desire permanent contour changes.

Patients who have had children or experienced a history of significant weight gain followed by weight loss often have excess skin (with or without excess fat) as their primary problem and will benefit most from some form of excisional surgery. Post-Bariatric Surgery patients often have excess skin in a number of areas necessitating more than one procedure.

Following Liposuction Surgery, Most People Have Very Little Pain

Prior to your liposuction procedure, your cosmetic surgeon will carefully outline the areas of bulging fat that are to be suctioned. He or she will then draw detailed contour lines in order to further define the contour and shape characteristics of the deposits of fat. Plastic surgeons will use the "tumescent technique" in which a large amount of fluid will be initially placed to swell the area. This technique allows for fat to be removed in a very safe, smooth, and symmetrical manner. The fluid is capable of helping to loosen the fat while it also provides a local anesthesia for operative and immediate post-operative discomfort. The fluid will also be able to provide epinephrine which is able to decrease bleeding.

Liposuction Can Do A Lot For Your Appearance

If you have recently gone through dramatic weight loss and still seem to have troubles getting rid of the fat in certain problem areas of your body then there is a procedure that is perfect for you.

Liposuction is a procedure that aspirates the fat from your body by using a hollow instrument called a cannula that is connected to a negative pressure machine or a syringe.

Liposuction is very safe when done by an experienced plastic surgeon and it often goes very well with other procedures like abdominoplasty, facelift surgery, body lifts, arm lifts or Breast Reduction and breast lift surgeries.

For anyone looking to learn more about this procedure here is a page I found that should be very useful in teaching more about Liposuction.

A Compression Garment Will Be Recommended By Your Cosmetic Surgeon After Suction Lipectomy

After liposuction surgery, the patient will be able to go home with a compression garment that covers the areas that have been treated. Compression placed on the areas where liposuction has been performed will be recommended for about a month because it will help reduce swelling after the surgery. After the pain and soreness have decreases, it will be more comfortable to wear lycra or spandex exercise pants. Initial discomfort after the liposuction surgery can easily be controlled with oral medication. Bruising and swelling usually subside after two to four week and the final results of the procedure will be noticeable after around two or three months.

A Safer Removal Of Fat Is Allowed By Ultrasonic Assisted Liposuction Performed By A Plastic Surgeon

Plastic surgeons use UAL which allows for a safer removal of a larger amount of fat than what a standard liposuction procedure allows. This increase in safety is accredited to the smaller amount of blood that needs to be removed with UAL. This means that UAL surgery can be extremely useful to someone who is only somewhat overweight even though the procedure is not meant for weight loss. Ultrasound assisted liposuction is intended to improve both the contour of one's body and the proportions, resulting in a more flattering physique or figure.

Lipoplasty Is For You If You Have Fatty Areas That Don't Respond To Diet Or Exercise

Liposuction would be a great option for you if you have fatty areas that don't respond to exercise or diet. Liposuction isn't a weight-loss or cellulite treatment procedure and people that are in good shape, yet struggle with "problem" areas are the best candidates. The procedure contours and slims various areas of a person's body by removing the excess fat. Liposuction does not treat loose or sagging skin. In some cases, liposuction is performed alone, in other cases it is used with procedures such as a breast reduction/lift or a tummy tuck, which can reduce sagging skin. According to Tacoma plastic surgeon, Dr. Nichols, when combined with other procedures, liposuction can be one of the procedures in a Mommy Makeover.

Abdominoplasty in Lindon, UT

Abdominoplasty Utah - A tummy tuck operation involves making an incision that falls along the natural skin creases of the lower abdomen, usually correlating with the bikini line. From there, the skin is lifted away from the abdomen, creating a flap. Depending on the patient's individual situation, the navel may be repositioned, fat may be liposuctioned away, and excess skin is excised, or cut away. Scarring is minimized as much as possible by the incision's being located in a natural crease, and by the application of vitamins and adhesives, but a scar is to be expected whenever there is an incision.

Utah cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Kimball Crofts, also reminds potential patients that planned future pregnancies and certain medical conditions can make the procedure unsafe. The best way to know for sure if you are a good candidate for this procedure is in a personal consultation with your surgeon.

Liposuction Targets Fat Deposits

I believe fat has a sense of humor, and it's not the benevolent kind. You work hard every day, after all. You exercise, you eat right (you deny yourself that Bavarian creme filled pastry your mouth cries out for every time you turn around), and so you've gotten into shape and slimmed down. Except...

There's just that one spot that didn't get the pink slip, and it's messing everything else up.

Of course, that's where plastic surgery can step in and knock out the monster that's not letting go of you. Dr. Habash, a plastic surgeon in Palm Desert, CA, offers a wide spectrum of cosmetic procedures. The past decade has seen amazing leaps forward in the field of targeted surgical fat removal. Perhaps all you need to finally get rid of that bulge is to set a time to talk about liposuction in Palm Desert.

Improve The Appearanc Of Your Body Contours With Liposuction

Liposuction is a procedure performed to improve the appearance of your body contours. It can help sculpt the body by removing unwanted fat from specific areas, including the abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks and neck. Although no type of liposuction is a substitute for dieting and exercise, liposuction can remove stubborn areas of fat that do not respond to traditional weight-loss methods.

There are technical variations to the basic liposuction techniques. Our surgeons are highly experienced and can remove the fat, but it is not what is removed that matters - it is the shape that you leave the body in after the fat is gone that counts. Liposuction techniques, together with an excellent artistic vision make our surgeons the right individuals to help you achieve the body contours you have always dreamed of.

Liposuction Creates Proportion and Balance

The most commonly suctioned areas are the neck (underneath the chin), tummy, waist, love handles, hips, saddle bags, inner thighs, knees, and, infrequently, the ankles. During the procedure you are completely awake, allowing you to lie down and stand up. Everyone is aware that their body appears differently when they are standing vs. lying, and by having you stand your surgeon can more accurately sculpt your body's proportions. Pre-operative valium will help minimize any anxiety and discomfort you may feel. A special tumescent solution will be injected. This will numb the area as well as put fluid around the fat cells so they are more easily removed.

Facelift Information

The neck lift procedure is designed for people who have excess fat around the neck, but have good skin tone and are not yet ready for a full face-neck lift. This operation includes liposuction of the neck, manual removal of fat underneath the muscles and tightening of the neck muscles under the chin. Excess skin cannot be removed with this procedure. If excess skin is the problem then a full face-neck lift should be done.

A one inch incision is placed just under the chin, and the skin is elevated off of the fat and muscle. A 3mm cushion of fat is left on the skin, and then liposuction is used to remove all of the remaining fat down to the muscle. De-fatting the neck is also done by manually removing fat from underneath the platysma muscle. Once the fat is removed, the muscles are tightened and any neck cords are released.

The incision is then closed with 3-4 sutures. Drains are also used to remove any excess fluid or blood and are removed in 1 or 2 days after the surgery.

Are There Different Liposuction Techniques?

Though the basics of liposuction remain the same, there are different techniques that can be used during liposuction. "Tumescent Liposuction" During this technique the plastic surgeon will inject a medicated solution into the fatty areas before the fat is removed. The solution is a mixture of intravenous salt water, a local anesthetic (lidocaine) and a drug that contracts the blood vessels (epinephrine). This fluid injection helps the fat to be removed more easily, reduces blood loss and bruising after surgery, and provides anesthesia during and after the surgery. The amount of fluid injected varies and depends on the preference of the surgeon. "Ultrasound-Assisted Lipoplasty (UAL) This technique requires the use of a special cannula that produces ultrasonic energy. As the ultrasonic energy passes through the areas of fat it causes the fat cells to liquefy. The fat is then removed with the traditional liposuction technique. Because the fat is liquid at the time that it is removed, UAL is smoother and mechanically more efficient. UAL also minimizes trauma, resulting in less bruising and blood loss and especially improves the ease and effectiveness of liposuction in fibrous areas of the body. Liposuction Can Help Sculpt Your Body To Look How You Want It

Liposuction is One of Today's Most Popular Plastic Surgery Procedures

One of the most popular procedures today, liposuction is designed to eliminate fatty deposits in various areas of the body, such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks or neck. This is not a weight loss procedure but rather a sculpting of areas that are refractory to dieting and exercise. During the tumescent liposuction procedure, fluid is injected into the tissue to improve the efficiency of fat removal and to decrease the blood loss. Then, a cannula connected to a vacuum pump is inserted through a small 1/4” incision in a normal skin fold, and the area is suctioned. Today, advanced techniques using ultrasonic and power assisted cannulas have enhanced results. This body contouring procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis, and the patient can resume normal activities within a week's time, but must refrain from exercising and sports for three weeks postoperatively.

Liposuction Sculpts Your Body

Liposuction is a procedure that can help sculpt the body by removing unwanted fat from specific areas, including the abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks and neck. During the past decade, liposuction, which is also known as "lipoplasty" or "suction lipectomy," has benefited from several new refinements. Today, a number of new techniques, including ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty (UAL), the tumescent technique, and the super-wet technique, are helping many plastic surgeons to provide selected patients with more precise results and quicker recovery times. Although no type of liposuction is a substitute for dieting and exercise, liposuction can remove stubborn areas of fat that don't respond to traditional weight-loss methods.
If you're considering liposuction, the information below will give you a basic understanding of the procedure - when it can help, how it is performed and how you might look and feel after surgery. It won't answer all of your questions, since much depends on your individual circumstances. Please ask your plastic surgeon if there is anything about the procedure you don't understand.

Remove Localized Fat Deposits with Liposuction

Liposuction can remove localized fat deposits from almost any area of the body. Many plastic surgeons use an "ultrasonic" technique, during which sound waves liquefy fat cells before liposuction begins. This allows the elimination of more tissue, especially in difficult to treat areas such as "love handles" and the upper abdomen. Ultrasound breaks up fibrous tissue in the fat, and gives smoother results than with other types of liposuction.
By injecting saline, anesthetic solution and epinephrine during liposuction ("tumescent" liposuction), bruising is minimized. Incisions for liposuction are small and easily hidden.

Liposuction: The Procedure

Many plastic surgeons use a "tumescent technique." After the induction of general anesthesia or intravenous sedation, a large volume, up to several quarts, of very dilute local anesthetic is injected into the areas to be treated. There is a tiny dose of adrenaline in the fluid as well, which makes the blood vessels in the area clamp down. This prevents perhaps 95% of the blood loss that would otherwise occur during liposuction.
Thin hollow stainless steel tubes are placed through short (perhaps 1/4") incisions in the area treated and are used to suction away the appropriate amount of fat. Sheets of lightweight foam are placed on the treated areas, and a compression garment, like a corset, is placed. Bruising is usually scant.

Get Rid of Stubborn Fat with Liposuction

While plastic surgeons encourage approaching liposuction from a state of good health, diet and exercise, they can effectively remove stubborn areas of fat that won't respond in any other way. Through a very tiny incision, which can be concealed, a plastic surgeon will place a tube deep beneath the skin. With a combination of ultrasound energy and suction, a plastic surgeon can remove and sculpt fatty layers. The liposuction they perform is usually circumferential which will tailor the area front to back and avoid any irregularities. Afterwards a compression garment or girdle will help control swelling and provide comfort while the skin shrinks and the bruising resolves.

Necklift surgery in Seattle or Bellevue

The neck lift procedure is designed for people who have excess fat around the neck, but have good skin tone and are not yet ready for a full face-neck lift. This operation includes liposuction of the neck, manual removal of fat underneath the muscles and tightening of the neck muscles under the chin. Excess skin cannot be removed with this procedure. If excess skin is the problem then a full face-neck lift should be done.

What can Liposuction do for You?

A liposuction can help individuals restore a thinner and fitter looking contour to their bodies. The specified portion of the body is made smaller to better match the shape of the patient. Plastic Surgeons accomplish this by removing excess fat through a vacuuming procedure. This not only helps to restore the physical appearance of the patient, but also restores self-confidence and respect to the patient.

Get rid of excess weight from your thighs!

The thighs tend to be an area of the body that is often overlooked but one that can greatly benefit from Plastic Surgery. The thighs can be affected by both redundant skin and an over-accumulation of fatty deposits. There are many reasons why the thighs undergo these changes. The thighs are one area of the body that is particularly prone to fat build-up and deterioration in skin quality. During the aging process, the skin loses elasticity, retaining ligaments stretch and gravity takes its toll. Thigh skin is especially prone to these changes as it is naturally thinner than skin found elsewhere in the body. Weight gain also plays a roll in this process as the added skin tension further stretches and thins the skin. The problem can become quite noticeable with significant weight loss. Sun exposure and cigarette smoking can also be major contributors to the problem. A Thigh Lift could be the solution.

Liposuction Eliminates Hard To Get Rid Of Fat

Liposuction (lipoplasty) is particularly well-suited for women and men who are of relatively normal weight but have isolated pockets of fat that cause certain areas of their body to appear disproportionate.
